Proposals for a study of the notion of mother tongue in a body corpus of research in the didactology of French as a foreign language/French as a second language from 1945 to 2015
Propositions pour une étude de la notion de langue maternelle dans un ensemble de travaux de recherche en didactologie du français langue étrangère / français langue seconde de 1945 à 2015
Résumé
The article proposes to study the notion of mother tongue, which has long been present in the reflection on the teaching of French in an institutional environment in a body of research work in the didactics of FFL/FSL, by underlining the fact that this notion has been criticized because of its polysemy, that conceptual and terminological alternatives have been proposed and that it has thus lost part of its notional legitimacy. It will be assumed that the diachronic evolution of the notion in this field of research aims to clarify it in order to meet the needs of the analysis of contemporary contexts. This evolution is based on a distancing, from the 1980s onwards, from the link to the mother, which leads, at the turn of the 2000s, to a complexification of the content of the notion with the rise of reflection on the teaching of FSL and the care of migrant children.
L’article se propose d’étudier la notion de langue maternelle, présente de longue date dans la réflexion sur l’enseignement du français en milieu institutionnel dans un ensemble de travaux de recherche en didactique du FLE/ FLS, en soulignant que cette notion a été critiquée du fait de sa polysémie, que des alternatives conceptuelles et terminologiques ont été proposées et qu’elle a perdu de ce fait une partie de sa légitimité notionnelle. On fera l’hypothèse que l’évolution en diachronie de la notion dans ce champ de la recherche vise à la clarifier pour répondre aux nécessités de l’analyse des contextes contemporains. Cette évolution est fondée sur une prise de distance, à partir des années 1980, par rapport au lien à la mère, qui conduit au tournant des années 2000 à une complexification du contenu de la notion avec la montée en puissance de la réflexion sur l’enseignement du FLS et la prise en charge des enfants de migrants.
