Didon de Purcell en prononciation restituée : But ah! what language can I try?
Résumé
An account of how Laurent Zaïk (choir conductor) and Florence Bourgne (CEMA EA 2557) collaborated to provide a reconstructed 17th-century pronunciation of Purcell's Dido and Æneas (1685) for a series of representations in November 2012 with Orchestre Bernard Thomas. Issues of feasibility and benefits (ease of pronunciation, recreation of the sound environment of the airs and choruses, dramatic effects) are dealt with. Extensive
